We (my wife Aimee and I) were told that starting up yet another swim team in Burlington, on top of the existing four age group teams (BAD, GHAC, LOVE, DSC), two masters swim teams (BMSC, GHAC), and at least three triathlon teams (TCoB, Canucks, Koalas)… there is no possible way that another swim or triathlon team is needed, nor warranted. Plus, with the only available pool time in Burlington being on Friday and Sunday evenings, we were also told that no one will want to swim on those nights, or at the times that the pool is available.
At our first practice, TOEST had seven (7) swimmers on deck. By the summer of 2018, our outdoor swim programs maxed out, and we started our second season with over fifty (50) athletes. Interestingly, Fridays and Sundays were the first to reach capacity, and led us to adding on Monday and Tuesday evenings to ensure that all the swimmers coming had space and time to train.
Why is TOEST growing? Because there is always, always a market for a product or service of higher quality. If that product or service is available only on Friday and Sunday evenings, then if the quality is high enough… athletes will change their schedules around so that they can obtain the coaching they know they need to pursue their potential.
